The portraiture of masterful weavers’ ties into a materialist inquiry of cotton as a body in motion from raw to processed. The weavers’ loom emerges as an instrument that echoes traumatic pasts and unsettles imperial records frozen in museum archives and libraries in England; it also invites examination into global flows of garment trade in the present day from Bangladesh to the world.
In the outdoor installation জট Knot (2024)life-size ropes and recursive knots are material witnesses binding handspun and industrial textile to the cyclicality of colonial extraction and corporeal memory.
A suspended textile piece, Last drops of the weavers’ bodies (2024) recollects the piercing exhaustion of labour, unhindered colonial violence, and the fabled translucency of muslin.- 16th Sharjah Art Biennial.
